VOID

"VOID" represents the return of Clara Andermatt to Cape Verde’s artistic universe, after a ten-year hiatus. The theatrical and musical piece addresses the encounters, the confrontations and the differences in discourse between the Cape Verdean and Portuguese cultures, seen in the light of the autobiographical experiences of the interpreters – Avelino Chantre and Sócrates Napoleão – who settled in Portugal after working with the choreographer. “VOID” is a piece about these two persons, inspired on their experiences, difficulties, "saudade", sorrows and joys, and the benefits of a decade of artistic development in Portugal.

For “VOID Elétrico”, the percussionist Kabum joins the other two interpreters, bringing with him his unparalleled energy and rhythm to the piece.

“I am son, brother, uncle, father, cousin, and, above all, I am a grandson…grandson of my grandparents… My old folks who taught me, when I was a child, to feel a special feeling, to be, simply to be, to be alone, alone in the midst of a multitude, in peace. A state of mind like…a VOID.”

“VOID” was shortlisted for SPA (Portuguese Society of Authors) - Best Author Award in the “Best Choreography” category.
