Of a mutual and symmetrical nature, this Tête-à-Tête between two dancers, set in a bandstand (coreto), proposes an intimate and contagious sharing. It brings into the present “danced testimonies / echoes from the past,” through the horizontality generated by an ethic of care that shaped the creative process, developed with the participation of elderly communities from several villages in the Beira Interior region and Galicia.
It is in the body that most of our memories reside, and it is through the body that we gain access to them.
At a time when global abstraction threatens to dissolve the bonds between people, ecosystems and collective memory, the “local” emerges as both origin and possibility for regeneration. More than a spatial unit or a geographical category, the bandstand becomes a lived, perceived, constructed and felt space — engaged through all the senses.
“To destroy a place is also to destroy a library of tacit knowledge, accumulated over centuries.”
