“Levanta os Braços como Antenas para o Céu” is the first choreography that Clara Andermatt created for a cast that brought together disabled and non-disabled performers. Andermatt departs from the perception of the difficulties, the limitations, and the differences between the performers, to obtain the best artistic results.
The name of the piece is drawn from a music by the Canadian band Godspeed Black Emperor, “Lift your Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven”. It stands as a metaphor for praying; the arms raised to Heaven which, like antennas, transmit the prayers and the gratitude.
“To stand aside from the usual pattern of being functional between your twenties and your fifties. Work with bodies without hiding their differences and difficulties. Explore them. Face the fear and the confrontation with the limitations, theirs, and mine. It is like solving an equation by changing its premises. It is to find the points of convergence that exist between everything and everybody. It is to better understand the full spectacle of the world.”
Clara Andermatt (2005)
