Cemitério dos Prazeres (Cemetery of Pleasures)

“Cemitério dos Prazeres”, premiered in 1996 at the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, is the first of four pieces that Andermatt choreographed for the Ballet Gulbenkian. A piece for nine interpreters, where strong, physical, and emotional unconscious impulses are metaphorically enacted.

“'Cemitério dos Prazeres’ is a piece about pleasure as a source of well-being and happiness, feelings that are often buried and castrated because of our fears and frailties. It is our good fortune that we are able to ascend to a higher frequency to achieve some peace and purity, a purity that does not deny pleasure.”
