Inspired by the universe of the Pauliteiros de Miranda, the performance expands the tradition into a collective body that resonates both with ancestral memory and its projection into the present. On stage, six performers – four dancers and two musicians – weave a dialogue between body, gesture, and sound, merging tradition with contemporary creation.
As Andermatt writes in the synopsis:
It is dance that transcends time.
The steps trace bonds of faith, struggle, and craft.
In the beating and in the silence of the sticks, we hear echoes from beyond the mountains.
What begins in the square expands further, in body and memory, it moves forward, becomes change and a living force.
It is here.
– Clara Andermatt
The Pauliteiros de Miranda are one of the main traditional expressions of northeastern Trás-os-Montes, with warrior, religious, and ritual elements. Since April 2025, the Ritual Dances of the Pauliteiros, performed during the Traditional Festivities of Miranda do Douro, have been included in the National Inventory of Intangible Cultural Heritage.
